Phnom Penh City Center announces the Grand Prize Winner of a 2-month internship in an international architecture and design company in Shanghai for its Street Furniture Design Competition at an Award Ceremony held at Sofitel today.

The competition was launched on 16 August, 2015. Ninety-eight students in the field of architecture, urbanism, construction and design from nine universities registered to join the competition. The contestants were required to design street furniture in four categories for the upcoming Central Park project of Phnom Penh City Center. They were given one month to submit their designs.

The submissions was judged behind closed doors for two and half days by a panel of four judges, both local and international industry experts and lecturers from higher learning institutions.

The Award Ceremony is attended by H.E. Noranarith Anadayad, the Advisor to the Royal Government of Cambodia, H.E. Thai Norak Sathya, Secretary of State and representative of Lok Chumteav Phoeung Sakona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, H.E. Touch Visalsok, Under-Secretary of State and the representative of H.E. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, and H.E. Phuoeng Sophean, General Director of Board of Architects Cambodia and the Secretary of State of Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction.

H.E. Phuoeng Sophean, General Director Board of Architects Cambodia and Secretary of State of Ministry of Land Management and Urban Planning in his speech, said “I appreciate this effort and is very proud to be associated with Phnom Penh City Center for initiating this excellent idea to organize Street Furniture Design Competition to find young, talented future architect for our Kingdom of Cambodia. I see so many young faces that have the potential to make a name for themselves locally and hopefully, internationally.”

“The result today reflects the consciousness of loving architecture, urban planning and construction as many participants have registered to join the competition. This competition also reflects the young talented human resources in the Kingdom of Cambodia whom will contribute constructing Cambodia”.

Daria Sottovia, Senior Urban Planner from LOGON, China conveyed her heartfelt thanks to all the participants via a video message. She said LOGON is very appreciative of the effort put in by all the contestants and the positive vibe that they brought to their designs; they look forward to hosting the grand prize winner.

The grand prize of 2-month internship with LOGON, China was won by Lim Yonghuort from Royal University of Fine Arts. The first prize of US$1000,00 cash went to Ing Porlin also from Royal University of Fine Arts. Taing Narong from Norton University won the second runner up prize of US$500.00

All the students who submitted their work were also given a certificate of participation endorsed by the Board of Architects, Cambodia.
